CUSCO, peru & ANdean highlands - day 6 - september 11, 2025

This morning we had an excellent breakfast at the Monasterio Hotel, it is a very beautiful setting here in the heart of Cusco. It is a difficult place to sleep at just over 11,000 feet in elevation - we are looking forward to being at sea level!

We headed into the Andean Highlands today, stopping at the Chinchero Community for a very informative weaving demonstration. They showed us the way they made the different colored dyes out of the local plants.

We then went to the Misminay Community for a culinary lesson and lunch. We had a Cuy surprise at the end. I will not start eating Cuy (Guinea Pig) anytime soon, but it was fun to get to try it. It is amazing that the valleys in this part of Peru are at 12,500 feet and the mountains are at 20,000 feet!
