mount washington, new hampshire - Day 9 - October 12, 2024
This morning we awoke to a very stiff wind, unfortunately we are going to the top of Mount Washington today. Our breakfast was the best yet - finally a 5 star hotel breakfast!
The wind is blowing over 100mph this morning on the top of Mount Washington so the top is closed. The cog railway up the front is also closed. We were able to take the Mount Washington Auto Tour to a point just below the summit, called “Cragway Drift”. When we got out of the vans there it was unbelievably windy! I was disappointed, but that Mother Nature!
We returned to Mount Washington Resort the long way, seeing the covered bridge in Jackson, New Hampshire on the way. We had a nice lunch with a presentaion of the Flora & Fauna of the area by Chris Lowery of Raven Interpretive Programs - it was an excellent presentation.
We are here on Columbus Day weekend and the Mount Washington Resort is overrun with people who come up for the day and for weddings…by the time we went to bed, it had mostly cleared out.
