Shelburne & Burlington, Vermont - Day 7 - October 10, 2024
This morning we had a late start, which is nice from time to time. We went to the Shelburne Museum which is a huge collections of collections. Electra Havemeyer Webb collected everything and had it all placed in this giant 50 acre/39 buildings museum. It is really hard to describe without seeing it in person, and it would take days to see it all! She built a waterway from Lake Champlain to the Museum and floated the Steamship Ticonderoga up the waterway and beached it at the museum! She had a round barn helicoptered miles from upstate Vermont to the museum. She had her New York City apartment recreated by moving the walls and the art to the museum - the art includes many masterpieces, including Rembrandts and Monet. She build a budling 500 feet long display miniature carved circus displays from all over the world. The place is simply amazing!

We drove around the town of Shelburne where the locals dress up little figures all over town as leaf people - very interesting!
We had a nice lunch at the Shelburne Tap House and then visited the Lake Champlain Chocolate company to learn about making chocolate and had some desert. We had dinner at the bar in the hotel tonight so we could have some more Heady Topper beer before we leave!
