portland, maine - Day 11 - October 14, 2024
This morning it was raining in Portland, Maine so we drove around on the bus to see some of the sites. Our guide for Portland is George Cleveland, the grandson of President Cleveland and he had some interesting stories about part of the decedents of US Presidents group!
Our first stop was a tour of the United States Custom House which is very hard to get a tour of because it is still being used by the federal government for offices. One of our guides had never been inside the building even though she had been giving tours of Portland for years.
We had a nice lunch of Lobster Rolls, Clam Chowder, and Blueberry Pie at the Portland Lobster Company - it was fun and excellent!
We then had a Lobster Boat tour and lesson with Captain Brian and Jerry the Gull. We suited up in Aprons and gloves to help bring in a lobster pot - there were 3 lobsters and 2 crabs. None of the lobster were large enough to keep.
We then had a nice beer tasting and tour at Geary Brewing Company.
